LONDON (Reuters) -Men's health experts are hoping to steer women into Viagra, the first of a new category of medicines for erectile dysfunction, as it targets a much bigger market.
The new product, called flibanserin, is to be sold by Pfizer in Britain and sold in pharmacies across Europe.
The drug, which is marketed as "female Viagra" by the drugmaker, has already been approved in the United States for the treatment of female sexual dysfunction. It is expected to hit pharmacy shelves next year.
"We've been looking for something that is clinically proven to be safe and effective," said Dr. Fiona Park, a professor of obstetrics and gynecology at University College London.
Park's team, led by Prof. John Cox, a consultant urologist at St Paul's Hospital in London, studied a placebo pill taken twice a day for six months to see how women responded to the drug. They looked at data from three different studies: those of 50, 75 and 80 per cent women, who received a placebo for six months and then took the drug twice a day for a year.
The women who took the drug also took the placebo for five years, in order to compare them to the 50 and 75-year-olds who received the placebo pill.
Researchers in the trials found that the women who took the drug showed more improvement, but that there were no major differences in the women who took the placebo.
The results were published in the British Medical Journal on Monday, citing a lack of published studies in women's health.
"It's clear that if you take flibanserin twice a day for six months, the results are not as good as with a placebo," said Park. "So it's very hard to say that the women who took the placebo were not better off."
The drug, which also is marketed by GlaxoSmithKline, was not available in the United Kingdom until the year 2000, but Park and her team had previously found it in the United States.
However, the new treatment, known as duloxetine, has been approved by the European Medicines Agency for the treatment of depression and obsessive-compulsive disorder, and is also being marketed by Pfizer. It was the first drug approved by the U. S. FDA for the treatment of the disorder.
Duloxetine is available in the UK under the trade name Addyi and is available as a generic version, but is also sold as a tablet.
Pfizer has a patent for the drug for a number of reasons. The drug is only approved for use in women but the product is also approved for use in men, which is the first medicine to be sold that is approved for women's use. There have been concerns about the safety of the drug in women, particularly after a review in 2016 of more than 6,000 women's trials showed that it helped women to reduce their risk of having a sexually transmitted disease. But the review found no link between the use of the drug and the increased risk of sexually transmitted diseases.
The company has been promoting the drug to doctors to help reduce the number of cases of sexually transmitted diseases.
The latest clinical study, published in the journal JAMA Internal Medicine, compared duloxetine to a placebo, and found no difference in any outcomes.
"The results show that the results of this study did not show any significant difference between the duloxetine and the placebo groups," said Dr. Fiona Park, the lead author of the study.
Park and her team are continuing their study of duloxetine to see if the drug can be bought in pharmacies as well as online. The study was led by GlaxoSmithKline, the maker of duloxetine.
The study, conducted in the United States and published this month in the British Medical Journal, involved 100 women between 18 and 41, from the United States, Canada, France and Italy.
Women in the study took a placebo pill twice a day for six months, and then took the placebo twice a day for a year.
They compared the women's responses to the drug with the results of another trial, which looked at how well the women responded to the drug.
A new study shows the erectile dysfunction drug Viagra could help people with diabetes to get and keep an erection.
Viagra is approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED) in men.
It was also found to help people with diabetes to keep an erection.
The FDA has found that sildenafil, the active ingredient in Viagra, can help people with ED to maintain an erection longer.
This was the first study to look at the benefits of sildenafil in patients with diabetes.
Researchers looked at about 7,000 patients, who were diagnosed with diabetes and had been taking sildenafil for at least six months.
They found that the drug helped them to keep an erection when they first started taking the medication, as compared to people who did not take it.
They also found that the drug improved their ability to keep a hard and erect penis during sexual activity, as compared to people who didn’t take the medication.
The study was published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine.
The study found that people with diabetes who took sildenafil were able to stay erect for a longer period, as compared to those who didn’t take it.
People with diabetes may need to take higher doses of the medication to see the results, but the study didn’t show the drug was a better option for them.
However, they did find that people with diabetes who took sildenafil were able to stay erect for longer, and were more confident about their ability to get and keep an erection.
Dr. Ganga Ganga, a urology specialist at the University of Sydney, said it was a promising area of research.
Ganga said: “This is a potential area of interest for researchers studying the effectiveness of sildenafil in diabetes.
“Our study did not show that sildenafil is a better option than Viagra for patients with diabetes to help maintain an erection.
“We hope this information will help people with diabetes to understand better how this drug can be used to help with ED.
“We will continue to monitor patients to find out more about its effectiveness and the benefits of sildenafil, and work with regulatory agencies to approve more drugs for this use.”
The study was funded by Glaxo Wellcome.
It was also funded by Glaxo Wellcome.
The drug is sold under the brand name Viagra and was tested in the US and Europe.
The study was funded by a private-company drug company.
The drug was used to treat erectile dysfunction in men, which is the inability to get and keep an erection when you are sexually aroused.
It was also used to help people with diabetes to keep an erection.
Glaxo Wellcome, the pharmaceutical company that makes the drug, said it was pleased to learn that sildenafil helped people to keep an erection.
The company said: “This is the first study to investigate the effects of sildenafil in patients with diabetes.
“Sildenafil was also found to be effective in helping people to keep an erection when they first started taking the medication.
“Sildenafil has been shown to be very effective for people with diabetes.”
Ganga said: “This is a potential area of interest for researchers studying the effectiveness of sildenafil in diabetes.”
